Car guys
make the best boat engines. Don’t
believe me? The guys at Seven Marine make
a pretty strong case for my argument.
But those guys make outboards; what about stern drives? As a big fan of pretty much anything with a
combustion engine, the 8.4liter aluminum block from the Dodge Viper is the holy
grail of modern naturally aspirated engines.
The car boat guys over at Ilmor Marine have combined their Indy
Car racing heritage and their passion for the water and transformed the violently
pounding heart from the Viper into a marinized, molten lava spewing, 725hp stern
drive unit. Behold the Ilmor Marine MV10
725, the highest performing naturally-aspirated marine engine available for EU
certification.
Click past the
jump to see the love child of a Dodge Viper and a Formula Cruiser, as two Ilmor
Marine MV10 engines are shoehorned into a Formula 400 Super Sport.
The Ilmor
MV10 725 can be installed in one of six standard colors, or I’m sure you can
pay extra for a custom color. The motor
is rated at 725hp and 649 lb-ft of torque, Ilmor Marine had to develop a special
stern drive, called the Indy®, to put all that metal twisting torque through
the cleaver propeller. The Indy® stern
drive features a twin shaft system to help reduce the torque load on the lower
drive unit. With a rich Indy Car racing and
Offshore Racing heritages, the Ilmor high performance series engines are sure
to make you the fastest on the water. If
your ears are aching to hear this beastly engine at wide open throttle, head
over to the Ilmor website for a quick sound clip.

This monster is sure to be the ultimate pride of anyone who is blessed to own her. With plenty of room for "chillin" and packing an amazing punch at the throttles she is sure to ignite the senses of even the mildest of men. Not sure if anyone realizes the shear awe of a big ol 40 foot cruising vessel blowing by you at 60 mph but I cab tell you from first hand experience that this is nothing short of "wow!"... I canonly imagine this boat blowing by at over 70!!! I hope they make more and I hope I make more $$$ so that I may be able to know what this is like for.myself. Can't wait to see one out on the water! I know I will. Until then she lives strongly in my dreams! Safe boating everyone!
