Is That a Floating ALMS Race Car? w/video

Source: Fantasy Junction

It’s rare for something that is designed to multitask to both functions well and look good.  This find, Project Sea Lion, is no exception.  The road car part of this beast is by far one of the coolest looking versions of an amphibious vehicle I’ve ever seen.  The TIG welded, 5052 aluminum body is impressive to say the least (check out the video to see why).  There doesn’t seem to be a wasted cubic inch within the shell of purpose built machine.  The aquatic element of this ‘amphicar’ uses a Berkeley 12JC jet pump for propulsion.

Project Sea Lion was built with the expressed purpose of capturing both the land and sea speed records for an amphibious vehicle.  Those records are currently held by separate vehicles.  As currently configured the Sea Lion theoretically should have no problem with the land speed record, the sea speed record may prove more difficult.  Currently the largest hurdle the Sea Lion faces is funding.  You can buy her for a mere $259,500.  That purchase price gets you the vehicle and access to hire the current designer/engineer/fabricator in hopes of clinching both speed records; not to mention the coolest looking amphibious vehicle a quarter mill can buy.
