First Look: The Foldboat

Maybe you’re like me and have that secret fishing spot you can only get to by foot but would love to figure out how to get a boat out there.  Or, maybe you’re a beard faced hipster that would like to trade up from the fixed gear bicycle to some unique aquatic transportation.  It turns out both of these problems have the same solutions, the Foldboat.

Continue after the jump.

The Foldboat is made from a single sheet of polyethylene plastic and can fold down into roughly a 3ft long by 19.5in by 23.5in carry pack.  Once you reach your destination you don’t have to be an origami expert to reassemble the foldboat.  There are two fasteners at the stern and one on the bow that quickly transform a flat sheet of plastics into a personal pleasure craft.  There is also a second edition of the foldboat, called the “Dock Edition.”  The Dock Edition packs up flat for bulk sale at IKEA to minimize usage of your precious dock space while cutting out the fold-up time.  The oars are made from the same polyethylene plastic wrapped around an ash handle and the cushions are also flotation devices.  The boats are still in development no word on price or availability here in the States.

  1. No beard here, but I do have a secret fishing spot this would be just right for. Hope it becomes available on the market here before too long at a reasonable price. Can you imagine what some of our parks ponds will look like on the weekends when this becomes available?
