Official: LEHR Marine Announces Propane Powered Outboard Engines

Source: LEHR
Dependence on foreign oil got you down?  Frustrated with E10, and the looming E15, water logging your fuel systems and burning up your small engines?  Or maybe you are a tree hugging hippie that dies inside every time you motor out to that secluded island to harvest from your secret stash?  LEHR Marine may have the solution you’ve been looking for in the form of a propane gas powered outboard motor.

During last week’s Miami International Boat Show, LEHR introduced their 2.5hp and 5hp propane outboards.  Propane engines can reduce emissions by up to one third while returning 14% better fuel economy compared to their equivalent gasoline counterpart.  Propane gas has a higher energy density, and weighs almost half of what gasoline does.  You can go farther, while using less fuel, and have better performance while doing it, Brilliant.  Not convinced propane is safe?  Propane is used by far more people every day for cooking, electricity, and even for transportation than you may think.  There is a chance your city already has a few propane vehicles in service on your roads.  Both model outboards are already available for purchase through West Marine.  The 2.5hp retails for $999.99 and the 5hp retails between $1,599.99 and $1,629.99.

If you are as geeked out by propane as I am, now you can have a propane powered boat to go along with your propane powered truck.  Don't forget about the propane powered lawn equipment.
