News: Palm Beach Mayor Threatens to Cancel Boat Show Over Damages

Source: The Palm Beach Post
Jeri Muoio, the mayor of West Palm Beach, has threatened to cancel this year’s Palm Beach International Boat Show due to $141,500 in damages to a waterfront stage known as “The Palm”.  The city maintains that cracks in the concrete appeared after a forklift dropped beams onto the stage.  Muoio had this to say about the possible cancellation of the show, “The bottom line is, no one wants to cancel the boat show, it's something we enjoy here and it brings a lot to our downtown.  However, we need these people to take responsibility for the damage they caused and if (cancelling the boat show) is the only leverage we have, we're going to use it.”  I’m not much of a poker player but I would be calling the mayor’s bluff on this hand.  The $140K in damages seems a bit petty compared to the economic impact the show brings to West Palm.
