Miami Boat Show: Insetta 45 - a Different Breed of Cat [w/photos and video]

While not all boaties are fishermen, the two breeds are very closely related.  All I’m saying is that sometimes it is hard to cut through the piles of BS while you are trying to get down to the facts.  A boats weigh, top speed, range, etc. they all tend to get embellished a bit.  That was not true of the straight talkers we met from American Marine Design and their Insetta 45.

The Insetta 45 was born from the hull of an offshore racing catamaran (does the name Skater Powerboats ring a bell) but has all the features of a hardcore pelagic fish hunter.  The aggressive tunnel hull has been narrowed slightly to easier accommodate trailering, but the running surfaces and stepped hull design have remained unchanged; ready for high speed offshore duty.  All the fiberglass parts are vacuum-infused using vinylester resin to make a strong, isotropic structure ready to battle the elements or any sea monster you may have had in mind.

Click the jump for more about the Insetta 45, our pictures from the boat show, and a quick video of her prowling offshore in 4'-5' swells.

Center Helm Configuration
I can honestly say I was impressed with the solid build and the well thought out details inside the Insetta 45.  There are very large deck gutters running around the inside to keep the decks dry.  The fish boxes are large enough to hold more than a world record bluefin on each side.  There is a fairly large sleeper cabin for those long nights tracking down swords.  The integrated hardtop and windshield are a nice touch to a well laid out, center helm configuration.  The hardtop was beautifully executed; the all aluminum construction is complete with integrated LED navigation lights.  And perhaps one of my favorite options is the quad outboards can be swapped for a pair of sterndrive diesel motors.  If you’re as cheap frugal as I am, the diesels offer a great balance between performance and fuel efficiency.

Make no mistake, this is a hardcore fishing machine; but it comes with all the refinement and comforts you’d look for in a family boat.  The catamaran hull offers stability and a solid ride, while the race proven running surfaces will get you there quickly and efficiently.  The Insetta 45 is like a house trained tiger; it’s powerful, a proven hunter, it’s good with the kids, and it doesn’t mind getting wet.

She looks intimidating just docked there.

Can you see the resemblance to the Skater hulls now?

Plenty of fishing space in that cockpit.

1200 horsepower? Check!

That is a monster transom bracket.

Those are storage hatches below the Yeti coolers.  That's where the diesels go if you check that option box.

Spacious walkways.

Look how beamy that bow is.

Windlass for anchor duty.

Gallons of deck drains.

Plenty of forward seating for the family or guests.

Can you believe that hard top is all aluminum?

Port side nav lights.

Better equipped than some RVs.

Plenty of space to sprawl out.

In gunnel storage, there are more of these forwad of the helm.

Love the clear transom door.

More rocket launchers than NASA.
