Maybe it’s the “hipster” in me, but I would probably choose classic or vintage
vehicles about 80% of the time; yes, that includes boats. Maybe that’s why I drive a truck that drives
me crazy, but there is real character in those classic lines. My theory for the natural draw to those
vintage vessels is the fact that they have proven themselves over time as being
well engineered and timeless designs.
One such beautiful example of a classic ocean liner is the S.S. United
States. The iconic passenger vessel was
built in 1952 to break the trans-Atlantic speed record. Sadly she currently sits decaying in the Delaware
River awaiting renovation. Check out the
proposed restoration project which has now begun requesting qualifications from
developers. There is also a good bit of
her amazing history recorded there.
