Since when is a surfboard considered a PWC? Since it can travel at 7 mph and has twin impeller jet pumps. Thats right, the brilliant minds at WaveJet have created a battery powered jet pump that will install on all manner of boards and paddle sport craft. The modular design allows the pod to be integrated into just about anything from boogie boards to an SUP (stand up paddleboard) to kayaks. The power and speed are controlled via a wireless wristband that uses a proprietary, through water, radio technology called Seatooth®. The lithium ion batteries can keep the jets pumping between 40 and 75 minutes with up to 20 lbs of thrust. The best part about the whole system is that the jet pumps and batteries are in a pod that can be removed and exchanged between different watercraft. So once you're done with your morning SUP cruise you can pop the pod into your fishing kayak to help you track down those tailing redfish. If you are impatient like me and don’t want to wait the 4 hours to recharge the pod you can always keep a spare around; but be prepared to shell out another $2,500. The company is currently accepting pre-orders for their complete board lineup ($4,395 - $4,795). Their line of kayaks should debut sometime in 2013.
