Tennessee Insists Homemade Boat Builders are Dealers w/video

I can remember many a day, as a boy, getting up before the
sun with my Dad to go fishing. I’d wait
all week for him to wake me up early on Saturday morning. He’d hop in his truck and stop at a gas
station or bait shop and I’d always get chocolate milk and some chocolate
glazed mini donuts. I still love going
fishing with my Dad. A Tennessee father
and son decided to improve upon their fishing adventures and build their own
homemade boat. When the duo finished
building the boat, the father registered the boat thinking they were ready for
the water. The family soon received
letters from the Tennessee Department of Revenue stating that their build
qualifies them as a dealer and a manufacturer and they are liable to additional
taxes ($539 dollars worth). The father
called the auditor assuming a mistake had been made, but Tennessee insists the
fees be paid or they will pursue other actions, possibly charges. The father reported to a local news channel
that "To say it politely, I think it's quite silly." That is a lot more politely than I would have
said it.
Check out the video of the homemade boat and the news story
after the jump.

DeleteThat's hogwash! Tell me where there was any deal made? I guess if I lived in Tennessee I would have to consider myself a home builder if I made a tree house with my kids - or a toy manufacturer if I made a stick into a toy gun - ridiculous!
