This Boat is Real: The Hangover Edition

You guys might not know this, but I consider myself a bit of a loner. I tend to think of myself as a one-man wolf pack. But when I started a new high school and I met Josh, I knew he was one of my own. And my wolfpack... it grew by one. So there... there were two of us in the wolfpack... I was alone first in the pack, and then Josh joined in later. And a couple weeks ago, when Josh introduced me to you guys, I thought, "Wait a second, could it be?" And now I know for sure, I just added five more guys to my wolfpack. Seven of us wolves, running around the Gulf of Mexico together, in Clearwater, looking for mermaids and a white whale. So tonight, I make a toast!

Bachelor parties are the best.  I can’t think of many other situations where you can so quickly make instant friends.  My long time friend, Josh (yes, we share the same first name), is getting married this month.  I met Josh way back in highschool and we have been great friends ever since.  When Josh asked me to be in his wedding I was pretty excited.  Josh and I haven’t lived in the same town for a while now so I couldn’t wait for an opportunity to try and find some trouble with a good friend.

Read more about our offshore adventure and see the pictures after the jump.

Las Vegas is overrated, bachelor parties on boats is where it’s at.  The seven man wolf pack jumped aboard the Super Queen deep sea fishing boat with a cooler full of beer ready to do some damage.  We weren’t coming back to shore till we caught all the fish or drank all the beer, or really till the boats captain decided to bring the boat back.  The Super Queen is the 90ft cat-hull of Queen Fleet deep sea fishing charters out of Clearwater Beach, Florida.

After about 45 minutes of motoring into the Gulf of Mexico the captain gave the all clear to get our baits wet.  Within about 5 seconds of the first baits touching bottom we had about three fish on.  Consistently one or two of us were pulling up a fish every few minutes.  You can see the bachelor below with his catch.

The Groom-to-be
While the majority of the fish we caught were white grunts, we did get a glimpse of a few other species.  We hauled in some red grouper and a few flounder, but all were well under the legal limit.  There was one guy on the boat that pulled in a keeper kingfish though.  For those of you less inclined to fish, there is a sun deck up top.  We took full advantage of some great weather on our return trip to relax and harass Josh a little.  All of us had some great stories of our time with the groom-to-be.

It was great spending time with a good friend. Josh is a Florida boy who loves being out on the water with friends and family. I'm pretty sure all seven of us had some kind of story that day about fishing or boating or surfing with Josh. A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.  Josh, you have been a true friend and a like a brother to me, I wish you and your wife all the best and in your years to come.
