A Different Kind of Boat Racing w/video

Source: Creative Commons
Chances are, when you think about boat racing, you think about the offshore Super Boats.  But living near Bithlo, Florida I have been made aware of a different kind of boat racing.  The fact is every town has a place like “Bithlo” nearby where you can find a race like this one.  So what kind of boat racing am I talking about?  I’m talking about your local crash-a-rama boat races.  The race is basically a demolition derby with a boat tethered to the back of the car.  For those of you that may be a bit squeamish about boats being destroyed, I’d say, get over it.  The average age of a used boat is 20 years old (that’s 140 in dog years).  These guys take the worst of the worst and give them a proper send off.  It seems more dignified to me than being sent to Davy Jones Locker (unless your making an artificial reef).

Click past the jump for a look at the carnage (warning: actual boats were harmed during the making of this film).

Don't forget to check out your local speedway to witness the carnage for yourself.
