JamesList Find of the Day: 1921 SS Delphine

Source: JamesList
Chris Rock differentiated rich vs. wealthy best when he said “Shaq is ‘rich’, the white man that signs his check is ‘wealthy’.”  While they may have gobs more money than the rest of us, it turns out the wealthy like to cruise the internet in search of a great deal or their next project boat too.  But the wealthy don’t troll through Craigslist like the majority of us; they have their own website for that, JamesList.

For a mere $49,027,600(€38M), you can purchase the SS Delphine.  The SS Delphine was built in 1921 by Great Lakes Engineering Works, and until 2010 she was the largest U.S. built yacht at 257 feet 9 inches.  The vessel has a rich history, including a sinking in the Hudson River, and service during World War II as the U.S.S. Dauntless, the flagship of Admiral Ernest King, Commander in Chief of the U.S. Fleet and Chief of Naval Operations.  The SS Delphine was passionately restored and updated by her current owners between 1997 and 2003.  Click here to see the listing.

  1. I looked over the listing for this yacht for quite a while and still can't quite imagine what it would be like to own it. I decided it would not be worth it unless you could spend 25% of the year on it cruising and I just can't get that much time off from work. Of course if I could afford the purchase I would not need to work. Then I started thinking of ways to own it and work it - mini-cruise ship for private cruises for the wealthy is all I could come up with.
